CITY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES VALENCIA

¿Conocéis la ciudad de las Artes y las Ciencias de Valencia?

Seguro que sí, se trata del mayor complejo arquitectónico, cultural y de entretenimiento de la ciudad.

Está situada al final del viejo cauce del río Turia (Jardín del Turia), cauce que se convirtió en jardín en los años 1980, tras el desvío del río por la gran riada de Valencia en el año 1957

Diseñado por Santiago Calatrava y Félix Candela, junto con los ingenieros autores del diseño estructural del LÖceonografic ALberto Domingo y Carlos Lázaro, fue inaugurado en 1998 con la apertura del Hemisferic.

Do you know the city of Arts and Sciences in Valencia? 

The City of Arts and Sciences is an entertainment-based cultural and architectural complex in the city of Valencia, Spain. It is the most important modern tourist destination in the city of Valencia and one of the 12 Treasures of Spain.

It is situated at the end of the former riverbed of the river Turia, which was drained and rerouted after a catastrophic flood in 1957.

Designed by Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela, the project began the first stages of construction in July 1996, and was inaugurated April 16, 1998 with the opening of L'Hemisfèric.

VALENCIA (Albufera)

Hace unos días estuve en Valencia, me quedaban cosas por enseñaros, hoy toca mi paseo por la Albufera de Valencia, la laguna litoral separada del mar por una lengua de tierra..

Fue también conocido por los romanos como Nacarum Stagnum y en algunos poemas árabes se le denomina Espejo del sol.

La Albufera es uno de los humedales costeros más representativo de esta comunidad, hasta el punto que fue declarada en 1986 Parque Natural. En este parque habitan especies en peligro de extinción y es sin duda un paseo muy recomendable...

A few days ago I was in Valencia city, one of the days we went to "la Albufera", a coastal lagoon separated from the sea by land ..

It was also known by the Romans like Nacarum Stagnum and in some Arab poems is denominated Mirror of the sun.

The Albufera is one of the most representative coastal wetlands of this community, to the extent that was declared in 1986 Natural Park. In this park inhabit species in danger of extinction and is without a doubt a very recommendable walk ...

VALENCIA WALKING AROUND

El fin de semana pasado estuvimos en Valencia, una ciudad que conserva su arquitectura gótica en prácticamente todo su casco histórico, edificios como la catedral, su famosa torre conocida como el "Miguelete" (el edifico más alto de Valencia) o la impresionante Lonja de la Seda... 

Os dejo algunas fotos por aquí, aunque os enseñaré más en los próximos post, se necesitan varios días para recorrer esta ciudad...

Last weekend we were in Valencia, a city that preserves its gothic architecture in practically all its historical center, buildings such as the cathedral, its famous tower known as the "Miguelete" (the tallest building in Valencia) or the amazing "Lonja de la Seda"..

I leave some photos here, although I will show you more in the next posts...

Visitamos la iglesia de San Nicolás, abierta después de tres años de restauración -dicen que es una de las restauraciones internacionales más importantes por su magnitud y por las técnicas empleadas-. La restauración ha tenido un coste de más de 4 millones de euros y ha sido financiada por la Fundación que preside la mujer de Juan Roig (Presidente de Mercadona).

We visited the church of San Nicolás, opened after three three years of restoration -one of the most important international restorations because of its magnitude and the techiques used. The restoration has had a cost of more than 4 million euros and has been funded by the Foundation of the Juan Roig´s wife (President of the Spanish Mercadona markets).

Fuera de la muralla, se encuentran los jardines del Turia, la mayor parte verde de la ciudad atravesado por puentes.

Outside the walls, there are the gardens of the Turia, the greenest part of the city crossed by bridges.

This one down here is the bridge of flowers...
